Catch the V.I.B.E. 2010

Saturday, October 16, 2010
7:30am-1pm

The City of San Marcos and United We Paint continue the tradition of providing home makeovers for those in need as part of an annual community outreach project called San Marcos VIBE. San Marcos VIBE program revitalizes a series of homes in a San Marcos neighborhood. Painting is the primary emphasis with additional landscaping projects. San Marcos VIBE provides all volunteers with breakfast snacks, beverages, lunch, music, volunteer certificate and pictures.

Typically there are 25 volunteers per house. Ideally we Movementians would adopt a couple houses. We are looking for a couple site captains - A leader of the house that can keep people on task and ensure enthusiasm continues throughout the day. The site captain acts as a liaison between the homeowner and the volunteers.

Please visit http://unitedwepaint.org/san_marcos/san_marcos_volunteer.html to officially register as a volunteer for the event.

Here are some helpful hints:
- For Sponsor Team select "The Movement Church".
- For "How did you hear about United We Paint?" select "Other". Then indicate "church".
- For "Team Name or Volunteer Requests" indicate "theMovement" and any other helpful information - eg. "can only be there from 8-10".

Jr High ages and up welcome. If you have a special circumstance with younger aged children or any other questions, please contact Carrie Gommel at 760.712.7758 or carrie@themovement.org.

Discovery Creek & La Moree Cleanup

Saturday, April 24th
8am-11am

After visiting the site with the Park Ranger, we have determined that only 5-10 people are needed to lift and remove a two sofas, a recliner, a tire, and a street sign from the creek bed into the dumpsters (provided by EDCO). It should only take an hour (or less) with that many people - 8am-9am.
    • wear protective clothing - i.e. pants, long sleeved shirts, close-toed shoes, work gloves, sunscreen
    • children ages jr. high and up welcome to help with parental supervision (child care is not provided)

Since we had initially reserved a four hour window for the Discovery Creek project, we would like to help the City with another small project that day - 9:30am-11:00am (at the latest). There is leftover landscaping debris off La Moree Rd that needs to be discarded. Dumpsters are being provided by EDCO.
    • wear protective clothing - i.e. pants, long sleeved shirts, close-toed shoes, work gloves, sunscreen
    • please bring shovels, pitch forks, etc - any tools you have that will help get the job done
